Gothic Church
Gothic style church built in the 14th century on a previous one. According to tradition, the saints Cadoc and Keyne, highly venerated in Wales, were found on this island. The church features an organ from the 18th century, a carved stone lantern from the 15th century, and alabaster panels carved in Nottingham in the 15th century with scenes of John the Baptist.
The patron saint of fishermen, Archangel Michael, is said to have appeared on the western side of the island, below where the entrance to the castle is today, to protect fishermen from certain dangers. The island was a place of pilgrimage, and was for centuries under the influence of the Norman abbey of Mont Saint Michel.
