Gothic style basilica, built in the 14th century by the citizens of Barcelona, especially the workers in the port area. It is one of the best preserved Catalan Gothic buildings, and is built on an early Christian basilica from the 4th century.
It is a church with three naves without a transept, with octagonal pillars and an imposing ambulatory. The main rose window, the cross vaults and the refined and austere style of its decoration stand out. In the chapel dedicated to Saint Ignatius of Loyola, a statue commemorates the place where the saint begged for alms during his stays in Barcelona between 1523 and 1526.
