The Sanctuary of Maria SS.ma Incoronata in Apricena traces its origin to the Virgin’s apparition in the Cervaro woods in 1001. Since then, it has been a major pilgrimage site, strengthened by miracles such as the statue’s eye movements in 1868 and 1908. In 1940 Pope Pius XII proclaimed the Virgin Incoronata patroness of Apricena, and in 1955 the church was elevated to a Diocesan Marian Sanctuary. Restored in 2002, the statue, attributed to the 18th-century Neapolitan School, remains a symbol of enduring devotion.
