Ruins of Our Lady of Angels Monastery José Luis Díaz Segovia

Ruins of Our Lady of Angels monastery

The Convent of Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles, founded in 1884 in Tiñosillos as the first female Trappist monastery in Spain, was the work of Bishop Ciriaco-María Sancha Hervás. In 1914, the nuns moved out, and the convent passed into private hands, where it remained in good condition until the middle of the 20th century, when it was abandoned. Today only adobe walls, rubble and the belfry of the church remain. The bell of the convent is kept in the church of Tiñosillos as a reminder of its history.
