Gothic Church, cloister from 13th century
Considered one of the first and pure Gothic cathedral built in the world, Laon is important because both the French Way of Saint James and the Via Francigena coincide there. Both the Cathedral of Notre-Dame in Paris and the Cathedral of Reims are inspired by it.
The building stands on a previous temple from the Carolingian era, and has a cross-shaped plan with side naves and a square dome. Its 13th century annex cloister and the stained glass windows in the head stand out.
