Hermitage of Berrocal José Luis Díaz Segovia

Hermitage of the Christ in Berrocal

The Ermita del Cristo de Berrocal, also known as Nuestra Señora del Tránsito, is located to the southeast of Cardeñosa on a hill. Of simple design, it houses a 16th century altarpiece and a side chapel with the tombstone of Álvarez de Águila. It is believed to have been founded in 1473 as a Franciscan convent and, according to legends, its origin is due to an apparition of the Virgin to a shepherd. Masses and festivities are celebrated in its esplanade, such as that of the Virgin on August 15 and the patronal feast in honor of the Christ of San Marcelo.
