Damanhur Temples

The Federation of Damanhur, founded in 1979 by Oberto Airaudi (Falco Tarassaco) in Valchiusella (50 km north of Turin), is a spiritual eco-community with its own internal currency (Credito), schools, and artistic enterprises. From 1978 onward, members clandestinely excavated the Temples of Humanity, a vast underground complex of halls richly decorated with mosaics and frescoes, dedicated to the “divine within humans.” Discovered in 1992, the site was later preserved as a collective work of art and, in 2001, recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s largest underground temple. The community aligns with GEN and RIVE, and promotes practices like Selfica and synchronic lines, which lack scientific validation. His particular beliefs inspired James Cameron for his film Avatar.
