The Church of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Apricena is today a small rebuilt chapel, originally linked to a Franciscan convent that no longer exists. Devotion to Saint Mary of the Angels is deeply connected to the Order of Friars Minor since its foundation by Saint Francis of Assisi, who dedicated the Porziuncola in Assisi to the Virgin under this title, making it the spiritual heart of Franciscan life.
