Lignum Crucis, Vera Cruz Museum
Basilica of the 17th – 18th century built on the tower of the Muslim castle where the miraculous appearance of a reliquary with a fragment of the true cross of Christ took place. Already in the 15th century, the tower had become a pilgrimage destination to venerate the sacred relic of the cross, which miraculously appeared in the presence of the Muslim leader Sayyid Abu-Zeit.
The temple is built in the Herreriano and Levantine Baroque style, and attached to it is the Museum of the Vera Cruz, with interesting pieces of goldsmithing and outstanding pictorial works, such as the Table of the Appearance of the Vera Cruz, by Hernando de Llanos, disciple of Leonardo da Vinci (16th century).
