Tomb of St Francis, Gothic Upper Church, frescoes by Giotto and Cimabue
Convent complex headquarters of the Franciscan order. It contains a lower church of Romanesque style, and an upper church of Gothic style, in addition to the convent building (Sacro Convento) and a museum.
On its walls, the famous frescoes by Giotto, Lorenzetti and Cimabue stand out, telling the story of Saint Francis of Assisi and his first companions. Also noteworthy is the tomb of the saint, and the “Museum of Treasures”, with objects related to the birth and early period of the order.
