The Ermita de la Virgen de las Aguas, located in a roundabout in Avila, was originally an annex shrine to the venerated Virgen de Sonsoles, who was brought to the city to pray for rain in times of drought. Founded in the 17th century, this hermitage offered devout travelers a place to pray and rest on their way to nearby places such as El Herradón and Santa Cruz. Today it is the entry point for pilgrims on the Camino de Santiago de Levante to the city of Avila.
During its restoration in 2004, architectural details were found that reflect the simplicity of the building, with solar decorations on the doorway and a decorated corbel, possibly from a lost arch, that speak of its cultural and spiritual link to the city and the main sanctuary of Sonsoles.
