The Church of San Nicola di Bari in Guardiagrele is located on Via Roma, in the historic center. Although a local legend claimed it was founded in the 4th century on the ruins of a Jupiter temple, recent studies confirm its medieval origins, featuring a square bell tower and 16th-century Renaissance portals. After the 1706 earthquake, the church was rebuilt in 1775 in a Baroque style, adding stucco decorations, lateral altars, and a dome with frescoes. Inside, the main altar is elaborately adorned, housing a statue of Saint Nicholas of Bari, alongside paintings by Nicola Ranieri, Francesco Maria De Benedictis, and Ferdinando Palmerio. A sarcophagus belonging to a member of the Ugni family, once kept in the church, is now displayed at the Antonio Cadei Medieval Civic Museum.
