The Monastery of Saint John the New in Suceava, built between 1514 and 1522 by Bogdan III and completed by his son Ștefăniță, is a landmark of Moldavian sacred art. The church of Saint George was adorned with Byzantine frescoes between 1532 and 1534, featuring a Pantocrator dome, Passion scenes, the Heavenly Liturgy, and votive portraits of its princely founders. Exterior fragments depict the Akathist Hymn, the Tree of Jesse, the Prodigal Son, and the Ladder of Saint John in vivid theological symbolism.
In 1589, the relics of Saint John were brought here, making it a major pilgrimage site. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993 among the Painted Churches of Northern Moldavia, the monastery also houses silver relic covers and rare woodcuts. Today it remains an archbishopric seat and vibrant religious center.
