Divine Mercy Sanctuary

The Sanctuary of Divine Mercy in Kraków, located in the Łagiewniki district, is one of the most significant pilgrimage sites in the world dedicated to the Divine Mercy devotion. Closely associated with Saint Faustina Kowalska, who lived there and received the visions of the Merciful Jesus in the 1930s, the sanctuary houses the original miraculous image of the Merciful Jesus and the saint’s relics. Its origins date back to 1889, when the Congregation of the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy established a convent aimed at rehabilitating marginalized women through Christian education, work, and prayer.

In response to growing global devotion and under the guidance of Pope John Paul II, a new basilica was consecrated in 2002 to accommodate large numbers of pilgrims. Today, the sanctuary functions not only as a place of worship but also as a spiritual and charitable center, promoting the message of Divine Mercy worldwide. The sisters’ mission continues through prayer, acts of mercy, and evangelization, now supported by laypeople and clergy involved in the “Faustinum” Association, which shares and spreads the charism inspired by Saint Faustina’s revelations.
