Convent of St Francesco Caracciolo

The Convent of San Francesco Caracciolo, located in Roccamontepiano, was founded in 1421 by the Observant Minor Friars of St. Francis of Assisi. Its origins are linked to the election of Father Antonio Cervi in 1338 as rector of the Franciscan province of Abruzzo. For centuries, the convent played a vital role in the community, offering education and support to the population. In the 14th century, it was the town’s main monastery but was suppressed in 1861 under Piedmontese laws before being returned to the Franciscans. The current structure features a Renaissance-Baroque style, with a rectangular church and a quadrangular cloister with a central well. The late Baroque interior preserves important religious paintings from the 15th and 17th centuries and houses the remains of Tommaso da Firenze and Blessed Giovanni Lombardo.
