The church of San Pedro Apóstol de Novés, whose construction began in 1190 on the site of an old demolished temple, is a remarkable example of architecture that combines Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. Its main chapel and transept, dating from the 15th century, are of ogival style, and its structure was enlarged in the 17th century under the direction of the Augustinian recollect Fray Lorenzo de San Nicolás, who added three naves separated by square pillars and covered with a barrel vault in the central nave and a groin vault in the lateral naves. The square belfry, with three sections of limestone ashlar, stands out on the façade, while inside there are remarkable grilles in the side chapels. Situated on a hill, the church is on the Royal Road to Guadalupe and the Pilgrim’s Road to Santiago de Compostela, connecting the town of Novés to historic pilgrimage routes.
