The Church of Madonna delle Grazie is located along the road leading to the Abbey of San Liberatore in Serramonacesca. Although it underwent renovations in the 18th century, its origins date back to the 15th century. It is a small stone church with a rectangular layout, a square façade featuring an oculus, and a late Romanesque portal.
According to legend, the church was built on the site where the Virgin Mary appeared to a messenger sent by the abbot of Montecassino to the prior of San Liberatore. Inside, it once housed a valuable 16th-century painting, the “Madonna del Latte”, attributed to a Mannerist artist influenced by Ambrogio Lorenzetti. The artwork was stolen and later recovered but is now safeguarded in the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, where it remains hidden from public view for security reasons.
