Church of Saint Mercurius

The Parish Church of Saint Mercurius, patron of Serracapriola, was rebuilt in 1630 after the 1627 earthquake, using materials from the previous structure. It features a basilica plan with three naves and a dome, housing noble family altars, relics, and a 16th-century triptych by Francesco da Tolentino. Notable elements include the east-facing façade and the grand staircase connecting it to the lower ground level. Consecrated in 1728, the church has been closed for over a decade due to structural issues. Saint Mercurius is honored with vibrant celebrations each August and September, including historical reenactments, processions, and intercommunity pilgrimages.
