The church popularly known as Chiesa del Rosario in San Severo was originally built as a vow of thanksgiving to Saint Sebastian, secondary patron of the city, for delivering it from the plague in the 14th century. In 1564 it was entrusted to the Dominicans, who introduced the devotion of the Rosary and of Our Lady of Libera. Destroyed by the 1627 earthquake, it was later rebuilt and, after 1730, richly decorated with Baroque furnishings, paintings, and statues. Over the centuries it hosted confraternities, religious orders, and since 1946 has served as a parish. Today it preserves its 18th-century marble high altar, several paintings, and remarkable wooden statues, including the Madonna della Libera crafted by Giuseppe d’Onofrio in 1816.
