House of Life Plaque at the Teresian Institute of Rome Silvia Costantini

Teresian Institute in Rome

The headquarters of the Teresian Association in Rome, located at Via Cornelio Celso 1, has been recognized as a “Casa di Vita” (House of Life) by the Raoul Wallenberg Foundation for sheltering Jewish refugees and others during the Nazi occupation. In 1943, five young Spanish members of the Association provided refuge to at least 35 Jews, including 11 children, at their previous residence on Via Gaeta. This humanitarian act exemplifies the values of the Association, founded in 1911 by Saint Pedro Poveda, dedicated to education and cultural promotion. The plaque commemorating this honor was unveiled in a ceremony emphasizing solidarity and resistance against intolerance, echoing the mission of the Association to integrate faith and life in service to society.
