The Parish Church of Qala, Gozo, is dedicated to St. Joseph and was built between 1882 and 1889 by the architect-priest Dun Ġużepp Diacono, who also designed the church of Għasri. The church was constructed in the baroque style, typical of many Gozitan churches regardless of their era. Qala became the first new parish after the Diocese of Gozo was established in 1872. Until the completion of the new church, the parish seat was the Church of the Immaculate Conception. The foundation stone of the new church was laid on March 19, 1882, and the building was consecrated on May 8, 1904. It was elevated to Archipresbyteral status in 1965. The village feast in honor of St. Joseph is celebrated annually in early August.
