The church of Santa Maria di Vico nel Lazio, located in the heart of the medieval village, is a remarkable example of Romanesque architecture dating from the 11th century. The façade, accompanied by a small sail-shaped bell tower, features a portal adorned with medieval naturalistic decorations. The interior of the single-nave church houses a Romanesque stone altar, a statue of the Virgin Mary, and a series of frescoes dating from the 12th-14th centuries. Highlights include a canvas of the Crucifixion painted by Capranesi and the Madonna of the Seven Veils, an 18th-century statue originally covered by seven vestments. Beneath the chancel, a “hall-like” crypt with sturdy columns and frescoes in various styles, including works of the 14th-century Roman school, complete the historic and artistic ensemble of this church.
