The hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Bienvenida, located in the municipality of Alcolea de Tajo, Toledo, is an outstanding example of late Gothic architecture from the 16th century. According to tradition, the Virgin appeared to a farmer from Puente del Arzobispo, who called out: “Welcome, Lady, to this town!”, thus giving the image its name. The sanctuary, of large dimensions, consists of three naves and a chapel dedicated to the Virgin, and is known for its beautiful surroundings and good conservation. The sanctuary is the destination of an annual pilgrimage on Easter Monday that attracts devotees from all over the region and celebrates both national and international weddings, organized by the Hermandad de Bienvenida de El Puente del Arzobispo.
