The Church of the Invention of the Holy Cross, located in Cardeñosa and dating from the 15th century, stands out for its polygonal chevet with an apse that houses an octagonal main chapel and a presbytery covered with ribbed vaults. The temple, built in masonry and with a brick tower added in the 16th century, has three naves delimited by semicircular arches. The central nave is distinguished by a remarkable Mudejar coffered ceiling, a reflection of the mixture of Gothic and Renaissance styles that characterize the structure.
In its interior, the altarpiece of the main altar, work of Pedro de Salamanca and Blas Hernández, represents diverse religious scenes with a structure in two bodies and three streets, dedicated to the Holy Cross. Among the artistic pieces, the “Virgen del Pajarito” by Vasco de la Zarza stands out, showing the Virgin and Child in a tender interaction. The church also houses an 18th century baroque organ, lateral altarpieces and a museum in the sacristy that exhibits liturgical pieces and paintings.
