The Church of San Pietro e San Paolo, located within the historic Castello Camponeschi, is an example of late Romanesque style typical of the Aquila region. Its construction took place in two phases, with inscriptions dated 1413 and 1614. The stone façade features a square design with a horizontal crowning, two portals (one Renaissance), two small rose windows, and a central oculus. The interior consists of two naves separated by stone pillars and round arches, with side chapels housing altars in classic Greek Mannerist style.
Notable elements include a stone altar with the coat of arms of the Camponeschi family, associated with the construction of the castle, two polychrome statues of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, and a fragment of a 14th-century fresco. The church was severely damaged during the 1915 earthquake and remained closed until its restoration and reopening in 1930. The bell tower, integrated into one of the castle’s towers, ends with a later reconstructed vela structure. The castle and the church surroundings still require restoration work following the 2009 earthquake.
