The Church of San Donato in Fossacesia has medieval origins and was originally built near a control tower, which now serves as the bell tower. In 1623, after a jurisdictional dispute, it passed from the Diocese of Lanciano to that of Chieti. The present structure was largely rebuilt in the 19th century, with the Neo-Romanesque façade completed in 1905, featuring a rose window carved by Antonio Di Gregorio and acquired at the Paris Art Exhibition. Bombed in 1943, the church was reopened in 1949.
The interior has a single nave divided into four bays. Though the Liberty-style frescoes by Angelo Lupi were lost in the war, the church retains lateral chapels with organs and statues, including a 15th-century Madonna and Child. A relief of the Miracle of St. Donato adorns the portal, while the semi-circular apse is decorated with a Resurrection fresco and a central sculpture of the Crucifix.
