The Church of San Miguel de Gotarrendura reflects the historical and religious legacy of this Castilian town since the end of the Middle Ages. Its modest construction combines materials such as stone, brick, plaster and wood, providing a style that mixes Mudejar and Baroque. The structure follows a common model in the area, with a main chapel, church body and belfry tower. It houses valuable liturgical objects and a baroque altarpiece, highlighting its dome in the main chapel. The Church of San Miguel in Gotarrendura, besides being a sample of the religious architecture of Avila, is deeply related to Saint Teresa of Jesus. In Gotarrendura the marriage of the parents of St. Teresa was formalized, it was the place of her childhood, all her siblings were born there and presumably also she, according to the testimony of Juan Jimenez in 1544, landlord of the parents of the saint says: “this witness saw two (children) of them born by sight and being this witness with the aforementioned, the others were born”.
