The Church and Convent of Sant’Angelo, located in Serracapriola, were founded in 1436 by Cistercian monks as an extramural hospice. Expanded in 1474 by the Gonzaga family, the complex included an infirmary, library, walled gardens, and housing for friars. Later assigned to the Observant and then Reformed Franciscans, it was suppressed by Napoleonic rule, converted into a girls’ boarding school, and eventually became private property. Inside the church, the Immaculate Virgin is venerated, and the body of Blessed Tommaso d’Avalos, bishop of Lucera, is preserved. It once hosted civic assemblies and religious festivals. The site still features a cloister, a rare Duns Scotus medallion, and remains a place of deep local devotion.
