Monastery of Bose

The Monastic Community of Bose was founded by Italian Catholic layman Enzo Bianchi on December 8, 1965, in the hamlet of Bose (Magnano, Biella province). It is an interconfessional Christian community of men and women from Catholic, Orthodox, and Protestant traditions, committed to monastic life inspired by the rules of Pachomius, Basil, and Benedict.

Recognized in 2000 by the Catholic Church as a sui iuris monastery under the Diocese of Biella, Bose is dedicated to prayer, hospitality, manual labor, and ecumenical dialogue. The community follows a rhythm of liturgy of the hours, lectio divina, and communal life. Today, about 85 people live in the community, including priests and a Protestant pastor.

In addition to its main monastery, Bose has smaller fraternities in Ostuni, Assisi, Civitella San Paolo, and Cellole (San Gimignano). The monks and nuns support themselves through farming, artisanal crafts, icon painting, candle-making, bookbinding, and publishing through Edizioni Qiqajon. The current prior is Sabino Chialà, elected in 2022.
